The past few weeks have been really busy for the boys and girls in the Snakes Class. Here’s some photos so you can see what we’ve been up to. You’ll see the students:

• Visiting the PTA used book sale and buying books.
• Making wonderful creations out of paper.
• Learning about 2D shapes through games and art projects.
• Playing with 3D shapes.
• Building elaborate cities out of blocks.
• Visiting the computer lab with Mr. Steve to work on our Stories unit.
• Exploring 3D shapes by observing the faces, corners and edges and recording the observations.

We have been exploring 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. The distinction between the two can sometimes be tricky for kindergarten students to understand. We talk about how 2D shapes are flat and 3D shapes are not. We have talked about the sides and corners of 2D shapes and the faces and edges of 3D shapes. Last week the students went on a 2D shape hunt with Ms. Pippa. Below you will find a slideshow of photos from that. Below that I’ve embedded a song we have enjoyed this week. Visit the classroom soon to see some wonderful shape monsters! Also, you will find a poem about 3D shapes in your child’s songs and poems book. Please take some time with your child this weekend to observe the shapes around you at home or  when you are out and about!

This week the boys and girls have continued to work very hard on adding and subtracting. They have enjoyed singing this song:

Like the pirate song we learned last week, it’s great for reinforcing the math vocabulary.  The songs and videos also inspired us to create our own video number stories. We used an ipad app called “Explain Everything”.
